Sax Player Boney James Release His Album After Accident

Fans of Boney James will be excited to know that he’s just release “Contact,” his new album featuring Heather Headley (“I’m waiting,”), LeToya Luckett (“When I had the Chance,”), Mario (“That Look on Your Face,”) and Donell Jones (“Close To You,”). Glazed with ten songs of smooth urban energy, blending contemporary styles of Jazz, Pop/Dance Hall, soul and R&B. Not too happy about being categorized as a smooth Jazz performer, he contends to break down categorical barriers with this new album ‘branding it’ Boney James Music.
“I always try to make sure my records
possess integrity. I make Boney James music. I’m just trying to break down the barriers and make CONTACT.” Boney James
The Massachusetts native is back stronger than ever following an ordeal of a near fatal automobile accident, almost threatening what he loves to do best. “One moment, I was on my way home thinking about what I was going to have for dinner and the next moment I was in an ambulance with a fractured jaw and two missing front teeth thinking I may never play my sax again. Looking at the car, I knew I could have been killed. Months later, after healing, I was so grateful to be back on stage and back to work on the CD. The experience has actually had a positive effect on my shows and it was a great influence on the new CD, Contact.” Boney James
On this album he holds the title of producer and co-writer flexing his musical muscles by playing keyboards, sequencing and engineering. Not to take all the credit, he brought some friends to enjoy the ride on the making of this album. Freddie Washington and Alex Al on Bass. Michael Thompson, Dean Parks, Kleber Jorge, Tareq Akoni and Rob Bacon on guitars. Leon Bisquera, Johnny Britt, Mark Stephens and Tim Carmon on Keyboards With Jerry Hey on horn arrangements. (For a full credit list go here)
“The title, ‘Contact’, initially reminded me of an electrical contact,“ says James. “But, once I started getting deeper into the record and writing the lyrics for the vocal songs, it seemed to me to also be about love, the connection between people and the frequent regret people experience as a result of missed opportunities. ‘Why did I not do this or that?’ People ask themselves that all the time. The word has so many layers.” Boney James
